Susan trained as an illustrator specialising in traditional animation, studying art at Barnsley College, the University of Westminster before graduating with an MA in animation at the Royal College of Art in 1991.
Her career began as an independent filmmaker and animator on works including: Animated Arias, channel idents for BBC2 and BSKY, Tears For Fears pop video, Smarties, Coco Pops and Felix cat food commercials, Peter Rabbit short films and Dorling Kindersley CD ROM Books.
More recently Susan set up her studio in North Yorkshire, where the inspiration for her paintings come from the animals, life and landscape around her.
Susan's training and her experience in illustration and animation is evident in the high level of accomplishment of her draughtsmanship and execution. In addition to this obvious technical skill her passion is in conveying a feeling and affection for her subjects:
"…to research and engage with your subject so that you add depth and insight, communicate a message, suggest character, personality or narrative. My aim is always to capture the moment…. It's impossible not to fall a little in love with your subject."
